McCarthy Insurance Group (MIG) came home with the Cork Business of the Year Award in the Medium Category from the Cork Business Association Awards Night held at the Silversprings Clayton Hotel on Saturday night last.

McCarthy Insurance Group, which started out from a small office in Fermoy in 1952, now employs over 200 people and has 16 offices throughout Ireland, eight of which are in Cork, both city and county.

Charles McCarthy CEO of MIG told The Avondhu that it was a very proud moment receiving the award on Saturday night.

“It’s absolutely fantastic for all the staff who have worked so hard over the years. When we set this up in 1952 we never thought it would grow to this scale. It started out as a family business and it is still a family business.”

Mr McCarthy said that MIG has become the largest independent insurance brokers in Ireland and that Fermoy is where it all started.

“This is a major award to win and we really are so proud to have received it.”

The Cork Business of the Year Awards are organised by the Cork Business Association (CBA) to recognise the outstanding contribution of businesses in various sectors to Cork.
