Kilworth's Village Arts Centre has a great line-up of events for the month of September. How disappointing it was to see just a few people turn up on Monday night to see Australian band Finn. What superb musicians - they deserve a full house - to that end we hope to have them back next year!
Friday 13th might be unlucky for some but it doesn't stop the irrepressible queen of the blues, Mary Coughlan from travelling down to Kilworth in mid-September. Mary, who is just back from a hectic run of concerts in Finland, was never in better form and is keenly looking forward to being back with us in Kilworth.
"It's a great venue and I love the people there. Spread the word and we'll have a stormer," she enthused this week.
Fans of Freddie White are keenly looking forward to his return on Thursday 19th. The Cobh native spends most of his time abroad now and this will be his only Irish tour this year.
Friday, September 27 sees the return of The Fureys. They gave a top rate performance on their last two visits and they promise 'more of the same' this time round.
To finish off the month, John Nyhan brings in a double act - 'Down The Road' and 'Jacob's Ladder' on Monday, September 30 to kick-start the second half of the Bluegrass season. So, all in all, four great nights in store.
Meanwhile, this Friday night is your final chance to see Sean Ahern's formidable characterisation of John'Joe Concannon in 'The Gallant John-Joe'.
Some acts lined up for the close of the year include Tommy Fleming (October 10), Gerry Carney with the Glynn Flynn band (Gerry high in the charts with his hit 'Paddy'); the Frankie Valli Show (Nov 21) and Sean Keane (Dec 9).
