O’Mahony’s Centra Mallow Spa Glen has joined forces with the SEAI (Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland) to spearhead environmental change in the retail sector, demonstrating their commitment to energy reduction and sustainable business.
Using an SEAI grant to install solar panels will result in the generation of energy, equivalent to powering over 13 Irish houses per year. These new energy efficient upgrades, combined with previous works in store amount to 57,536 KWH of energy per year, a significant 60% overall carbon reduction for the store.
POSITIVE CHANGE
Donal O’Mahony, owner of O’Mahony’s Centra Mallow, said: “We are proud of our sustainability credentials. We had already upgraded to LED lighting, upgraded our refrigeration, and installed an electric car charging stations, so we were delighted to continue to work with the SEAI again to install solar panels. This has been a positive change for us, resulting in a 60% reduction in our carbon emissions to date. We would encourage other businesses to seriously consider implementing these measures as the benefits also include reduced energy bills.”
O’Mahony’s Centra Mallow Spa Glen is one of 25 stores nationwide who took part in the ‘Building Sustainable Communities’ initiative this year, identifying and upgrading areas in their own operations which can be made to reduce energy costs, fossil fuel usage and greenhouse gas emissions.
