M8 truck blaze

Motorists are urged to be aware of potential traffic delays on the M8 near the Corrin Interchange, after a truck caught fire at approximately 1.20pm on Tuesday afternoon.

Emergency services dealt with the incident and the fire was put out by 2.50pm, with no injuries reported.

*UPDATE

The incident, which occurred just after Junction 15 near the Fermoy toll, sees motorway carriages closed Tuesday afternoon to traffic, moving both north bound and south bound. Diversions are in place.

It may be some time before the motorway reopens, with the incident happening on the approach to a flyover above an interconnecting roundabout.

According to Chief Fire Officer with Cork County Council, Roy Collins: “It will be quite a while before the motorway is opened, possibly a number of hours.”

Full details will follow in this week’s print edition of The Avondhu.
