52 local secondary school students had a lucky escape on Monday morning, when the bus they were travelling in left the road and overturned in a field during bad weather between Ballyhooly and Fermoy.

The incident occurred at Cregg South at 8.18am, when the 53-seater bus, sub-contracted by Bus Éireann and operated by Glenferry Coaches, crashed shortly after a left-hand turn on the road. It was raining heavily at the time.

No one was seriously injured in the accident, although a number of minor injuries – including a broken leg and a broken nose – were sustained.
