Farmers from throughout the Avondhu region made their way to the farm of Pat and Nora Flynn last Friday evening for a viewing of Pat's Coolmohan herd (called after the townland where Pat farms on the Araglin/Kilworth border). Pat is a prominent and progressive dairy farmer who has built up a prizewinning herd of dairy cows. He is also a member of the Cork Holstein Friesian Club, who helped organise the event.

A man who claims to be 'always learning himself', Pat's expertise in relation to breeding and grassland management is much sought after and he was his usual helpful self at last Friday's open evening. Someone who is completely committed to dairy farming, Pat has won numerous awards over the years for the quality of his stock.
A number of trade stands with a vested interest in the dairy sector were also present for the talk and farm walk.

Cllr Frank O'Flynn who works as a dairy executive for Dairygold, said Pat Flynn was 'always striving for excellence and the recognition he was getting was just reward for years of hard work'. The neat layout of Pat's yard and farm buildings was also commented upon very favourably. Behind every good dairy man is a good dairy woman and Nora Flynn and her team made sure there was a cup of tea and lots of home baking for the visitors.
