As part of the Junior Certificate curriculum for religious education, students learn about different types of religion from all over the world and last week, students from Loreto in Fermoy had a unique insight into Buddhism when they met two monks in Mitchelstown.

As the students sat cross legged on the floor of the town hall in Mitchelstown, the monks spoke about what brought them into Buddhism, how they became monks and what the traditions and practices of the religion are.

Students were enthralled to hear about the chanting in the mornings and evenings, the meditation they do and what the Buddhist beliefs are.
