A fantastic result for the Loreto Fermoy girls as they were victorious in the Intermediate C Schools final on Friday. A local school derby, Loreto led from the beginning. Joanne O’Keeffe settled the team with the opening score from 50 yards out. Aoife Heffernan worked tirelessly and added another point.

Trish O’Sullivan was immense throughout the hour giving a master class performance in midfield. Ailne Dinneen, Alison Fitzgerald and Clodagh McAuliffe held the defence while Maebh Mulcahy (captain) and Emma Spillane were solid throughout. The experience of Áine Cashman and Áine Mulcahy coupled with first years Siobhán O’Sullivan and Caoimhe Galvin, saw them score three well worked goals between them. Loreto played a total of 23 players and each played an integral part of the win. Coláiste an Chraoibhín had a far better second half keeping Loreto to scoring a mere point.

Ms Gould, PE teacher and camogie manager for Loreto expressed her delight as this was the first time the girls had captured this title. “These are a fantastic hard working group of girls and I’m very proud of their achievement. Coláiste an Chraoibhín fought to the final whistle and should be very proud of their performance.”

Referee, Dave Daly, presented the trophy to Loreto captain, Maebh Mulcahy. Dave has been an outstanding and very fair referee throughout this campaign and we would like to express our thanks to Dave and also Robert Lotty along with Esther O’Leary of the Cork Schools Camogie Committee.

Loreto are now contesting the quarter-final of the Munster Schools Senior D championship in the coming weeks and we wish them the very best going forward.
