A public meeting held in Lismore on Monday night last has become the topic of national news as anti-immigrant protestors attempted to sabotage the event. 

The Lismore Welcome Project is a pilot project rolled out by the Department of Justice whereby Lismore will sponsor and welcome a Syrian family to the town and help them to integrate into Irish life. 

An independent group of volunteers from the Lismore/Cappoquin area and was set up in January to spearhead the community response and to put preparations in place to welcome a Syrian refugee family to Lismore in the summer of 2019.

A public meeting was held on Monday night last March 4th and there were around 150 people in attendance.
