There was fantastic news for several local groups this week as they took awards in the Pride in our Community Competition 2021.

Winning the best ‘Large Town in North Cork’ Award for their Barry’s Boreen project was Fermoy Tidy Towns group. The boreen originally led from Duntaheen Road to the farms at the foot of Corrin Hill in the 1950s.

According to Muintir na Tire, “The elderly residents wanted something to remind them of the past, and the project marks the boreen and shows people what it looked like, back in the day in a wildflower surrounding.”

Mitchelstown’s Allotments Group won the ‘Healthy Towns/Villages’ category for their extremely attractive and well-maintained plot on Church Hill. The project has over 30 plots and have been on-site since 2015. Highly commended in the category were neighbours Kilworth Celtic.
