Gardai from Mitchelstown, Kildorrery and Fermoy will be taking on a three-pronged challenge next week to raise money for Cystic Fibrosis Ireland and they are calling on the public to support them and help them to raise much needed funds for this worthy organisation.

On October 19, twenty Gardai will take part in a non-competitive event 'Top to Toe 2013', which will see them climb the Galtees from Anglesboro to King's Yard, where they will then cycle to Mitchelstown and from there they will kayak down the Funcheon River.

The event has been organised by Garda Vincent Guerin from Kildorrery who responded to an appeal by CF Ireland for emergency services to organise a fundraiser for them before December 1.

Garda Guerin said that there are a lot of people locally who have had direct dealings with cystic fibrosis and it is something they wanted to support. The Gardai are hoping to raise €2,000 and with the support of the public, they hope that this is a very achievable target.

The boys in blue will be setting off early on the day to complete the challenge and while Garda Guerin himself has taken part in triathlons before, many of the other gardai have not, and the men and women taking part range across all ages and fitness levels.

"We have had a lot of assistance from the public already but the event wouldn't be possible without the help of the following people: O’Sullivans Garage, Mitchelstown; Kings Yard, Kilbehenny; The Funcheon Bar, Glanworth; Paddy and Marion Kelly, Anglesboro who will be guiding us over the Galtee Mountains and especially Brian McCarthy and staff at the Blackwater Outdoor Activities in Castletownroche who will be supplying the kayaks and guides for the last leg," Garda Guerin said.

If individuals or businesses wish to support this fundraiser, details are available in Mitchelstown and Fermoy Garda Stations through the community gardai and also from Garda Vincent Guerin in Kildorrery Garda Station.

Collection buckets will also be in place at the stations if people wish to make donations. All support would be greatly appreciated.
