There’s lively interest in the Fermoy-Mitchelstown finals of the over 60s talent competition, which will take place in T.O. Park in Labbamologga, outside Mitchelstown next Tuesday night at 8pm.

Organiser of the popular competition, Paddy O’Brien said this week “We’re delighted with the strong level of interest shown by people from both areas in taking part this year.” He thanked both area organisers, TO Flynn in Mitchelstown and Kieran Barry in Fermoy, for their sterling work in organising and promoting the heat. Kieran Barry is organising transport for those who’d like to travel to TO Park next Tuesday night. He can be contacted on 025-32042/32047.

Paddy started the competition 37 years ago to give older people a social outlet as a means of combating social isolation. It’s now grown to become a prestigious event on the annual calendar, with over 20 heats taking place in towns and villages throughout Cork. The competition is also a fundraiser for the Irish Heart Foundation, in fact it’s their biggest fundraiser of the year.

The final of the competition takes place at City Hall in Cork in May.
