Well known Lismore builder, John Flynn, was killed when the van he was driving left the road and crashed into a wall on the N72 between Lismore and Cappoquin on Wednesday morning.

The collision occurred shortly before 9am when the man was driving his van and towing a trailer from Lismore to Cappoquin. He was pronounced dead at the scene. He was the sole occupant of the van. No other vehicle was involved.

The deceased was the member of a well known Lismore family. He was in his mid ’50s. His body was removed to Waterford Regional Hospital where a post mortem was carried out. There has been some speculation locally that he may have suffered a heart attack at the wheel.

The road was closed until early afternoon to facilitate an examination by Garda forensic collision investigators.
