Lismore and Ballyduff gain marks in Tidy Towns

The west Waterford town of Lismore and the village of Ballyduff did more than hold their own in this year’s Tidy Towns competition – both managed to improve on last year’s scores by two points apiece.

The west Waterford town of Lismore and the village of Ballyduff did more than hold their own in this year's Tidy Towns competition - both managed to improve on last year's scores by two points apiece.

Lismore took the award for county Waterford with a score of 310 points out of a possible 400. The extra points were awarded for built environment and landscaping, however the town slipped a point for litter control, from 41 to 40 out of a possible 50. It also slipped a mark for roads, streets and back areas. Those marks were made up again in the tidiness and residential areas sections were an extra mark was awarded in each.

"Your enthusiasm and momentum year on year is remarkable," the judges said in their report.

The built environment and landscaping were also the areas where Ballyduff gained two extra points, achieving a total of 244 this year. Judges praised efforts to retain the character of the village.
