Crann Ard housing estate stalemate drags on
Members fears that the headquarters of the county library service are to be moved from Lismore to Waterford were confirmed at the monthly meeting of Lismore Town Council on Monday night.
At their April meeting members were told by town manager, Paul Daly that no decision had been made. Asked again about it on Monday evening by Councillor Orla Russell, he said “yes, that’s the plan. The library headquarters are to go from Lismore.”
It cost Waterford County Council €2M to establish the library service headquarters in the town in 2005. They’re being moved as part of the reorganisation of council services under local government reform.
Members are worried that under the shakeup, all services will be centred in Waterford city and major urban areas like Dungarvan, to the detriment of West Waterford. Monday night’s confirmation that the library HQ is to be moved will reinforce those concerns.
