Conna's Liam Kearney, pictured with manager John Caulfield, has signed with Cork City FC as first team coach.

Conna native Liam Kearney, has been announced as First Team Coach of Cork City FC. Liam Kearney had three separate spells at the Rebel Army between 2003 and 2015 and spent the last year coaching in the United States.

The former St Colman’s College student joined Nottingham Forest in 1999 and had spells with Shelbourne, Derry City, Waterford United and Dandenong Thunder SC in Australia during his playing career.

Speaking this week, Liam Kearney said he is delighted to have the opportunity to return to Cork City FC and thanked manager John Caulfield for adding him to his backroom staff.

“I know a lot of the players and the staff as well, and I know the club for a long time too, so I am delighted to be back and hope I can contribute to a successful season. In my last season here as a player, I completed the UEFA B Licence because I knew that was the road I wanted to go down. Then I got the opportunity to go to America and I spent the last year over there coaching full-time. That gave me a good base and allowed me to figure out what things I liked and didn’t like, and a sense of what kind of coach I want to be.
