Pharmacies providing the LetsGetChecked sexual health testing service have reported massive demand for their personal health tests.
With men purchasing three out of four of every test sold (72%), pharmacies are seeing 14.5% positivity rates in detecting sexually transmitted infections.
With the growth in the use of hook-up apps, casual sex has gone mainstream leading to sexually transmitted infections reaching an all time high.
LetsGetChecked’s Medical Director, Dr Dominic Reilly, says: “While the high positivity rate is alarming and reinforces what the European Centre for Disease Control recently said about the sharp rise in the number of people contracting STIs in Ireland over the last decade, the pharmacy sales of LetsGetChecked tests over the last six months shows that more and more people are taking responsibility for their sexual health.
“LetsGetChecked is a convenient and confidential service that saves people having to take time off work to get tested.”
“By simply purchasing a test in your local pharmacy, a customer can register a test-kit instore, self collect a sample at home and return the sample to our accredited Irish laboratory using a pre-paid envelope.
“Test results are sent to a secure mobile platform within 3 days after being received by the laboratory. If a test is positive, LetsGetChecked offers clinical intervention by way of a phone call from a registered nurse or specialist doctor and a referral pathway into the clinical setting is provided for those in need of treatment.”
