The first of many traditional nights in The Spinning Wheel, Castletownroche kicked-off last Thursday, July 11, giving visitors and locals alike the ultimate traditional Irish experience. As proprietor Norrie Quinlan this week told The Avondhu, “visitors absolutely love it!”

Beginning with a meet and greet and a glass of wine in the courtyard at 7pm each Thursday night, customers will be entertained by young talents from the area with singing, music and dance on offer. Then, after a few words of welcome from Norrie, Tom Quinlan gives all present a short background on the area, including all local points of interest.

“THE REAL DEAL”

It’s then into the main building for an evening meal, with the menu being traditionally Irish, in light of the occasion in question. However, customers also are also welcome to choose from the a la carte menu.

“It’s the real deal,” said Norrie. “Everything is home-cooked”, she commented, “we are passionate about what we do.”

As the night continues, the fun increases with a raffle, the chance to pull your own pint and a lesson in Irish coffee making among other things. At 10pm the trad session begins, with craic agus ceol in abundance.

LOOKING AHEAD

Opening night showed great promise for the future. “We were delighted with it,” Norrie told The Avondhu. “It all went very well and we had a great turnout”

Irish traditional nights continue through the summer every Thursday at 7pm (extra evenings can be arranged for large groups if necessary). Looking further ahead, if the demand is there, Tom and Norrie are more than willing to carry on with the venture throughout the autumn/winter season.
