IFA National Sheep Chairman John Lynskey said some factories have offered €5.00/kg to get very tight supplies of lamb this week.
He said prices are up 5 to 10c/kg on last week and demand is very strong.
John Lynskey said the €5.00/kg is a critical marker and feeders are now holding out for further price increases as the week progresses.
In addition, John Lynskey said carcass weights are moving up with some outlets prepared to pay to 23kgs, which is important at this time of year.
John Lynskey said with the bad weather over the last few months, many feeders have put a lot of concentrate feed into lambs and run up considerable costs.
He said further price increases are needed to cover these costs.
