Last weekend brought with it a momentous and memorable occasion for the students of Knockadea NS, as they joined more than 3,000 students from around the country to perform in the Young Voices Hallelujah Choir Festival in Dublin.

Principal Aileen O'Dwyer told The Avondhu that it was a wonderful opportunity for the students of the rural school to be part of such a large choir and to sing together, almost as one united voice.

The students, from 2nd to 6th class have been practicing since September and one of the parents, Marie Lane, kindly gave up her time to teach the students the dance moves for the festival.

Some of the parents travelled to City West in Dublin to see the show and found it so moving that some of them had goosebumps as they sat in the audience.

Describing the experience, the students said that it was 'electric, exciting, tiring but amazing, heart stopping and thrilling' and they would all love to be involved in it again another year.

The principal said that it was a great experience and the students, staff and parents all really enjoyed it.

"It was great fun and the atmosphere was electric. It was worth all of the hard work and it wouldn't have been possible without the co-operation from parents and people in the community", she said.
