‘A lovely, happy family day out’ is how Fermoy’s Joanie Hanley described the recent Kitefest she organised in aid of Breakthrough Cancer Research.

Millstreet Country Park provided the perfect backdrop for the event as visitors got to enjoy the sumptuous surroundings and all the park had to offer in addition to the main event.

The kiting element of the day went down a treat with kite flying displays and workshops, demonstrating how much fun kite flying can be. Joanie says it showed that anyone can enjoy flying a kite.

Best of all, well over €3,000 was raised for the charity which is close to Joanie’s heart, having herself battled cancer this year.

Kitefest was such a success that it’s to become an annual event and there are plans to make it even bigger and better next year with additional workshops and activities.
