This year's Kilworth Festival was as good, if not better than festival 2012. Having had a few great years, the festival concept in Kilworth lapsed for a while and it took a concerted effort to get it up and running again.
Organizers didn't deviate massively from the show they put on 12 months ago and you would have to probe very deeply indeed to find any fault with the planning and execution of this week-long extravaganza that incorporated music, song, dance, street theatre, sport and a whole lot more besides.

The exciting programme of events all built up to last Sunday's 'Fair In The Square' and it was heartening for everyone involved to see people of all ages partaking in the festivities. Popular balladeers, 'The Buachaills' played for several hours before a large and appreciative crowd. Fronted by charismatic, singer/songwriter, Eoin Murphy, the boys gave a great account of themselves and very deservedly earned rave reviews for the quality of their performance. The 5km run attracted just the right mix of serious athletes and fun runners. Personnel from the Three Counties Motorcycle Club provided an escort for participants and with both volunteer members of the Red Cross and local guardian of the peace, Larry O'Hara close at hand, the run/race was incident free.

CONVENIENCE

Colourful characters from The Cork Circus strutted their stuff as did the 54th Kilworth Scout Troop. Those seeking refreshments had a choice of sampling confectionery from the street tea party stall or tucking in to the culinary delights of O Crualaoi Butchers who operated a really tempting barbecue. The proximity of the village's pubs meant patrons had ready access to their favourite tipple.

The fine weather was an added boost as people sat back in their seats and savoured the 'Fair In The Square' experience. With no admission fee, tickets sellers were well supported when they did the rounds - there was also a draw for a calf. All proceeds from tickets sales went to Kilworth Community Council.

Sponsors' names were prominently displayed on a 'sponsorship tree' and it's probably no harm to conclude our round up with a list of those who gave so generously: ABC Academy, Anne Donnellan Montessori, Butcher's Bar, Carmel's Garden Centre, Centra, Kilworth, Charlie Daly, Chic Beauty Salon, Colourfence, Cotter's Bar, Divine Tiles, Douglas Valley Hatchery, Ella's Playgroup, Gallery Crafts, Ger Hennessy, Grill & Fryer, Hair Of The Dog, Happy Days Play Centre, Jimmy's Bar, Kilally Stables, Kilworth Wellness Centre, Magnier Landscaping, Mark Nugent Taxi, Maurice Hanley Motors, Noreen Anderson Chiropody, Tony's Shop, Tommy Byrne, The Village Inn and The Village Arts Centre
