Saying you'll do something is fine, actually getting the job done is what really matters.

Described at last Saturday's presentation ceremony as 'Mr Reliable', Kilworth's John Twomey has been a great source of assistance to residents of Heaphy Grove since it opened in October 2002.

In the interim, all-rounder John has been on hand to clean, maintain, upgrade, fix, replace, remove and improve. To use the old advertising slogan, 'no job was too big or too small' for this popular and hardworking community activist.

Sean Hegarty who made a presentation to John on behalf of Kilworth Community Housing Association, said John was 'a great man to help out'.

"Heaphy Grove has been a fantastic success and a key element in that success has been the immense contribution of John Twomey; John got to know every resident and was available to do all manner of jobs, both inside and outside. He was a great man to help out any time night or day," Sean said.

Responding, John said he really enjoyed his time working with the residents of Heaphy Grove. He had special mention for Aggie Corcoran who was one of the first to take up occupancy of this sheltered housing scheme.

"The craic was always good and people appreciated what you did for them, that was the main thing as far as I was concerned" John said.

John's wife Barbara, was also in attendance, she was presented with an attractive fruit bowl on the occasion of John's formal retirement from his role as Heaphy Grove caretaker and handyman.

We wish John and Barbara all the best for the future!
