Work has commenced on an ambitious project by Kilworth Celtic Football Club to construct a top-class footballing ground within the present sporting emporium in the village, featuring two grass pitches, an AstroTurf pitch, running track, dressing rooms and a car park.
The site is located adjacent to the GAA club, Pitch & Putt Club, tennis courts, sports complex and primary school in Kilworth.
Celebrating their 20th anniversary this year, Kilworth Celtic FC has over 170 playing members from academy age (five to eight) right up to the Junior team, who this season – for the first time in their history – captured the premier league title in the West Waterford East Cork league.
The completion of the new club grounds, chairperson Gus Shanahan told The Avondhu, will be the next major step in the club’s ambitious plans for the future, but is also a community-wide endeavour aimed at promoting health and exercise for young people within the local area.
The first phase of the project which is presently under way will see the construction of the two playing pitches, one to FIFA standards and the other UEFA standards, and is expected to be completed by September.
