A Cork riding club enjoyed a well-deserved show jumping victory at the Dublin Horse Show in the RDS recently under team captain, Ferghal Fleming, a native of Kilworth.

The nail-biting climax to the competition came down to a jump-off and, as team captain, Ferghal stepped into the breech, recording a clear round to win the Association of Irish Riding Clubs Horseware Team Show Jumping Championships for The Highland Lodge Riding Club.

Ferghal has lots of connections in the Kilworth area, his mother being Frances Tobin from Downing. Ferghal spent most of his young years in Kilworth, attending the national school there up to 4th class.

Fearghal's colleagues on the team included Maria Blomen, Jane Delaney and Sinéad Vallely. They were guided to success by the brilliant Chef d'Equipe Jill Twomey of Hitchmoughs Riding School. Jill is the mother of International showjumper Billy Twomey.

Highland Lodge was one of only two teams to advance to a nail biting jump-off from a starting field of ten teams who qualified from all corners of Ireland.
