Grey Heron Media in Kilfinane, a firm specialising in creating compelling radio features will launch their latest series: Kilmallock Walled & Alive on Wednesday, June 3 at 7.30pm at Friars' Gate Theatre, Sarsfield St, Kilmallock.
The series brings the listener on a journey through a day in the life of Kilmallock town. Over nine programmes the listener will experience Kilmallock from morning to evening - walking the historic streets, stepping behind the scenes and listening in as people go about their daily lives - meeting the people and groups that make life in the town so vibrant and rich.
The series was recorded on location around Kilmallock in 2015 and features over 100 Kilmallock voices and more than 50 locations around the town.
Diarmuid McIntyre, creative director of Grey Heron Media, the Kilfinane based production company behind the series, says the team have worked really closely with the community in Kilmallock over the past few months chronicling life in the town.
“From the top of King's Castle, to the pitch of Kilmallock GAA grounds and from the choir balcony of St Peter and Pauls' Church to the auction block at the Mart, our microphones have visited all corners of the town. Kilmallock Walled & Alive offers listeners to East Limerick Community Radio a unique insight into day to day life in this historic town and it should also give Kilmallock people a really interesting fresh perspective on the streets and community life they know so well."
The producers say it’s an open invitation to all to join them as they play selected highlights from the series and give an insight into how the programmes were produced. Tea and coffee will also be served.
Kilmallock Walled & Alive was written and produced by the award-winning creative team at Grey Heron Media for East Limerick Community Radio, and will begin broadcast locally this June on 96.8fm & 97.3fm. The series was funded by the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland with the television licence fee.
