The people of Kildorrery have now reached an impasse with Cork County Council over the water issues and they have called a public meeting in the community hall tonight (Thursday) to resolve the problem, which has been ongoing for three years.
Chairman of the Kildorrery Community Development Association, David Myers, told The Avondhu that they have invited all local politicians to attend and they hope to get some answers.
The situation has now become so dire that many people cannot use their showers or washing machines, because the water pressure is too low.
While residents are suffering, there are also businesses, such as the hairdressers, the new restaurant and farmers, who would depend heavily on a reliable source of water to keep in business.
"Businesses have had to close because they have had no water and even when the water is there, the problem is the pressure. This week alone, the water went more than twice and when it comes back, there is only a trickle there," David Myers said.
Cllr Noel McCarthy who will be attending the meeting with other councillors and public representatives, said that while Cork County Council are doing their best and responding to calls, funding needs to be found, because he said that until the mains are fixed for good, this problem will continue.
"They need action now, not talk and they need to hear something positive. They have been patient enough and they just can't wait any longer. Every day, when they wake up, there is a worry about whether or not they will have water in the tap and that's not right," Cllr McCarthy said.
A large crowd is expected to attend the meeting, which takes place in Kildorrery Community Hall at 8.30pm tonight (Thursday) and all are welcome.
