Kildorrery Christmas Market a huge success

A Christmas Market was held in Kildorrery in the old store on the Fermoy Road.

On Sunday, Dec 15, a Christmas Market was held in Kildorrery in the old store on the Fermoy Road. A large crowd attended and enjoyed this community event despite the torrential downpour throughout the afternoon.

Local businesses and arts and crafts people were invited to attend and the committee were delighted with the huge response. There was a wide variety of stalls ranging from floral and craft displays to Christmas fare and many local businesses and organisations availed of the opportunity to do a bit of PR.

There were a number of people involved in organising this event and our sincere thanks must go to the following: Dave, Maureen and the Lee family, Dave and Angela Sheehan, Eamonn McCarthy and Nora and Denis Barrow. Thanks to the chairman of the Kildorrery Community Development Ltd (David Myers) for all his assistance and to Kildorrery Community Development Ltd. for the use of the store; to Ted Enright, Conor Maguire, and the workers on the Rockmills CE Group and the RSS scheme for preparing the store and building Santa’s grotto; to Jonathon O’Grady for the use of his marquee and to Kieran Geary (Avondhu Bouncy Castles) for his marquee and the activity centre to entertain the children while waiting to visit Santa.

Thanks also to Peadar Collins (Irish Tree Centre) for adorning the vicinity with his beautiful evergreen oaks, they made a fantastic display and were much admired. A special thank you to the members of the Foróige club and their youth leader, Breda Fenton for their assistance and enthusiasm in making it a great day – it really is very much appreciated. Thank you to Frank McCarthy and Ned McDonnell for providing the PA system and the music; to Eleanor Lynch and Suzanne Guerin for selling tickets for the raffle; Siobhan Skinner for providing the teas and Dave Dwane (Exact Signs) for providing the posters.

Thanks to all who assisted Santa and Mrs Claus on the day especially Martin Curtin for the use of his horse and trap, giving Santa’s reindeers a rest for a couple of hours; our two designated elves Rebecca Lynch and Fiona Nolan and also Roisin Guerin and Rachel Caplice. Thanks too to Kathy Thornhill for all her help and Thornhill’s Pharmacy for donating the Santa photos which are available for collection in the Community Office on the Main Street.

Thanks to Santa and Mrs Claus – we hope they enjoyed their visit to Kildorrery to meet all the girls and boys.

Wishing everyone health and happiness for 2014.
