As more than 13,000 students from around the area opened up their Junior Certificate exam results on Wednesday, there was a flurry of excitement, opening the door to the next chapter of their lives.
Nationally, 59,823 students got their results with Cork having the largest number at 6,786. With the exception of Galway and Roscommon, the number of female students who took the exam was lower than the number of males.
While the Junior Certificate exams are not as life altering as the Leaving Certificate exams, they are a stepping stone into the future as the results gained here will decide whether or not the student takes honours or ordinary level in their next exams and it also gives them an idea of how they perform in a State exam setting.
The results were available in the schools from Wednesday morning and can also be viewed online on www.examinations.ie, but students are advised to consult with their teachers and go through their results to assess their performance.
From here, students will either be progressing into the Leaving Certificate cycle to start the cirriculum for the next bout of exams in two years time, or they may be taking a breather from the exams by pursuing Transition Year, if it is available.
