Thanks to the many volunteers that helped put up the Christmas lights in Castletownroche. Marie Burke and Morgan O'Brien, pictured against a deep blue sky, were two of them. The official switch on takes place Friday, December 7, with Seán Donnellan doing the honours, in the presence of Santa, Mrs Claus and elves. Do join them on the night!

All the fundraising and hard work is about to pay off in Castletownroche next week with the official switching on of the Christmas lights on Friday week, December 7 and all are invited for a magical community celebration to kick-start festivities in the village on the Awbeg.

The Christmas ceremony will begin in the Square at 7pm and continue throughout the evening in the local hall. Local celebrity Sean Donnellan will do the honours of officially turning on the lights.

Santa and Mrs Claus are also due to arrive to view the event and they will stay for a while to meet the children in the hall.

Mrs Claus has said if any of the children would like to write their letters to Santa she will give them an official stamp and one of their elves from the mailroom will put them in his bag and make sure gets Santa them when he gets back to the North Pole.

Of course, to be doubly sure you can meet the great man himself and tell him face to face what you want!

There will be mulled wine and minced pies for all the mams and dads and treats for the children maybe even cookies made by Mrs Claus herself. With favourite Christmas tunes and carols to add to the occasion, it promises to be a long night and this is just the start of wonderful weekend

Sunday will see the hosting of the annual Christmas party. Doors open at 2pm and all over 60s and those living alone are invited to attend this eagerly anticipated day. Hope to see you there.
