Starting the 2014 drifting season on a high, 14-year-old Jack Shanahan has started out as he means to go on.

At the weekend, the Killavullen driver claimed first place in the first round of the British Drift Championships in Lydden Hill near Dover in England - giving him the honour of being the youngest driver to get a podium win in Britain.

With the full support of his parents John and Valerie from Shanahan Car Sales and his younger brother Conor, Jack drifted in the Super Pro class against some of the top drivers in Britain and took first place, beating Galway driver Shane O'Sullivan who came second and last year's 2013 Super Pro champion Mike Marshall, who came third.

Jack's father John, said that they hope Jack's first win of the season is a sign of things to come for 2014 and this weekend, they are looking forward to the first round of the IDC in Mondello Park. Jack will also be competing in the first round of the European series in the Drift All Stars in London next month.

Throughout the course of the year, Jack will be competing in more than one drifting event most months, with events in Ireland, Britain and across Europe.

The Avondhu have been following Jack's story since he became the youngest driver to ever go pro and over the course of last year, he came up against some of the best drivers in the world.

Jack competed in Britain in the car he started out with, but himself and his father John have been building a new Nissan S14, which they hope to have finished by the end of next month for the rest of the season.
