Irish Water have confirmed to The Avondhu that no wastewater has been transported from the waste water treatment plant (WWTP) in Glanworth to the one in Mitchelstown in 2021.

However, from September 13th-21st, 2050 cubic metres of wastewater was transported from Kilworth WWTP to Mitchelstown for treatment.

Even though Mitchelstown WWT plant is deemed ‘at capacity’, at that particular time it was established that the plant could take on extra waste. The reason for the transfer was “operational reasons”.

The only other transport of wastewater to Mitchelstown WWTP in 2021 was from Ballindangan on the 28th May. Five cubic metres was transported inwards on that day.

Irish Water confirmed that during 2021, no wastewater was transported outwards from Mitchelstown WWT plant for treatment.
