The Lady Mayoress of Cork, Karen Brennan, announced the upcoming ‘International Women’s Day Event’, which will take place on Thursday, 27 February in the Millennium Hall, City Hall, Cork.
The event, which is open to the public, promises to be a vibrant celebration of women’s voices, achievements, and support networks across the city. The theme for this year’s event is ‘With knowledge we thrive, with support we rise.’
Last Friday’s launch at City Hall brought together representatives from community groups, cultural organisations, and women’s support services from across Cork City. The event will provide a unique opportunity for these groups to network, share resources, and showcase the wide range of supports available to women in Cork. Some of the groups and organisations confirmed to attend include Cuanlee, LinC, Pregnancy Loss Research Group, Good Shepherd, Mayfield Women’s Shed, Network Cork, The Sexual Violence Centre, Ruhama, to name a few.
Members of the public are warmly invited to attend (timed from 10am to 1pm) and learn more about the services and initiatives that empower women at every stage of life.
“Across our city there are incredible supports available for women at every stage of life, and I want to encourage women to reach out and make use of them,” Lady Mayoress Karen Brennan said at the launch. “We don’t have to do everything on our own. There is a helping hand, a listening ear, and practical support in every corner of our community.
“Taking that first step and asking for help takes courage, but it is often where real action and meaningful change begin. When women feel supported, informed, and connected, they are empowered to move forward with confidence and our entire city is stronger for it.”
The Lady Mayoress International Women’s Day Event is a celebration of solidarity, empowerment, and community, aiming to highlight the importance of knowledge and support in helping women thrive and rise together.
