Some members of the newly formed Rathealy Camera Group, took a boat trip along the River Blackwater towards Ballyhooly from Fermoy recently.

The were thrilled with the trip and were loud in their praise for the boat's skipper, Chris O'Donovan. The boat, named ‘John Mahon’, can hold up to ten passengers and is wheelchair accessible.

"We took lots of photos and enjoyed views of the river and countryside that you wouldn’t see from the banks of the river," spokesperson Pearl Nolan told The Avondhu.

"Kipper’s knowledge of the history of the area brought everything to life, making it all very interesting and inspiring for our budding photographers."

On behalf of her group, Pearl said she would encourage everyone to take the trip and experience the beautiful surroundings.

"Bring your family and friends - take photos, or just enjoy the scenery drifting by. Along the route you will pass the famous Castlehyde House, home of Michael Flatley and his family. The boat ride takes 1 hour and 20 minutes and is open to everyone - young and old."
