In order to improve the village where he lives, Fine Gael activist Tom O'Donnell is calling for action from the council to implement changes that would improve Ballylanders 'now and for years to come'.
He is calling for a school bus shelter to be put in place for the safety and comfort of school children from the village and for a pedestrian crossing to be put in place in the Church Glen/Oliver Plunkett Terrace area.
Tom has also said that there is a great need for double yellow lines the corners and on Bog Road and for extra lighting and a ramp on Bog Road as well. Ramps through the village would also help to slow down through traffic.
"I also want to see 50 social housing units being built which would see 200 jobs being generated in Ballylanders," he said.
Speaking to The Avondhu, he said that up to 200 jobs could be potentially created in Ballylanders across different industries.
Talks are currently ongoing to get a pharmacy into Ballylanders and this would make things much easier, particularly for elderly people who go to the doctors in the village and then have to get someone to get their prescription elsewhere.
With more than 400 post offices being closed in two years time, he is also pushing for Ballylanders Post Office to remain open.
Tom added that all of his suggestions have been backed by Ger Mitchell, who is a new Fine Gael candidate for the 2014 local elections.
