The 2nd round of the of the ladies inter-zone competition (McIlroy Cup) was played on Saturday, December 1 between Cork Zone and the Oriel Zone at St Anthony’s School Sports Hall, Ballinlough, Cork. The format was, as in previous rounds, two sessions with three teams of four from each side in each session (6 games) and played over 10 ends in each game.

In the opening games in the first half some excellent bowling was served up to the capacity crowd in St Anthony’s School Hall by both teams with the home team winning two out of the three games but away team scored sufficient shots in the third game to take the lead at the interval by 1 shot (24/23).

In the second session the away team scored a three and a four to three for the home team to increase their lead to 5 shots but in the third end the Cork team scored 8 shots to take the lead by three shots but unfortunately the home team conceded 8 shots in the fourth end to leave the away team leading again by 5 shots.

In the remaining six ends the away team gradually increased their lead and eventually won the match by 10 shots. Congratulations to both teams on a sporting match and the Oriel Zone are drawn away in their next match against East Antrim on January 3, 2013.
