MItchelstown enhancement awards

Following on from the success of last week's public meeting about the Community Development Plan for Kilfinane, the community are now welcoming ideas and submissions from the public, about areas that can be improved upon or enhanced.
Last week's meeting was chaired by Kilfinane Community Council with help from Ballyhoura Development and other state agents and is the first in a number of public meetings to set about developing a five year plan for the area.
Chairman of the community council Tommy O'Sullivan, started off by welcoming the hugely diverse crowd that turned out and he presented a profile of the community over the past thirty years, outlining all of the progress in that time period.
"There are opportunities for Kilfinane, but this is a process for the community which needs to be developed by the people in the community," he stressed.
In delivering the findings of a survey carried out locally, a member of the community council Anne Delaney, explained that the new hostel was identified as a key asset, while things like the strong Tidy Towns group and the location of the bike trail were also identified as positives.
Eileen O'Keeffe of Ballyhoura Development explained the importance of having a community development plan and she encouraged everyone at the meeting to examine the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats in Kilfinane.
The next meeting will take place on December 2 at 8pm in Scoil Pol and Tommy encouraged as many people as possible to attend.
Anyone with any ideas for the community development plan is asked to email them to kilfinanecommunityplan@gmail.com - all submissions and feedback are most welcome, as the community look forward to what the future holds for Kilfinane.
