Hundreds of people are expected to take to the streets of Fermoy this Saturday, for a rally against water charges being imposed by Irish Water.

The rally has been organised by the Fermoy & Surrounding Areas Against Water Charges group, led by Pat Conroy and former councillor William Hughes.

The rally begins on Saturday at 2pm, assembling from both Shinnick's on Barrack Hill in the north side of Fermoy, and from the southside at Chapel Square. Both groups will converge on the Constituency Office of Fine Gael, TD Tom Barry, where speeches will be heard.

Mr Barry himself has recently told the Taoiseach, Enda Kenny that he will not pay for his house to be metered for a second time, saying his farm and house in Killavullen has been metered since 1966.

This will be the second organised rally in Fermoy against Irish Water, with more rallies occurring around the country in anticipation to the national protest in Dublin on December 10.
