Those who helped organise last Saturday night's barn dance in Gortnahown managed to replicate the success they enjoyed last year.

Billed as 'an authentic barn dance experience' the event drew in a huge cross generational crowd - all of whom were out for 'a good old time'. No one had any problem with the €10 admission fee and this spelt good news for the beneficiaries, 'Partners in Learning' - a charity that works with communities in the developing world. Other bodies who had an input into the event were Curraghagalla  Community Group, Mitchelstown Credit Union, Mitchelstown Lions Club and Bavaria Beer - all this assistance was much appreciated.

Popular entertainers 'The Waxies' played a great set and both bar and barbecue did a roaring trade - the bar operated on a token system which ran very smoothly.

A big hit on the night was the Western style studio, where patrons had the option of being photographed for the 'D'hillbillies Barn Dance facebook page'. People queued to have their picture taken by resident photographer and florist, Catherine Sheehan.

Cllr Frank O'Flynn was quick to congratulate all those involved in the fundraiser. "This is an event that I've had in my diary for some time, I always like to support it and it's great to see such a large crowd, it's a very well organised event and those behind it are to be heartily congratulated," Cllr O'Flynn told The Avondhu.

And it was hard to argue with the councillor and dairy executive as cowboys and cowgirls let their hair down and 'yehawed' the night away in good ol' Gornahown.
