After an eventful and busy year in which we reached two championship finals, the club held a dinner dance in the local community hall last Saturday night. It proved to be a very enjoyable occasion.

Pride of place went to the North Cork junior B hurling champions of 1973 who beat Dromina that year to claim the title. Special guests at the social were North Cork Board secretary, Denis Twomey and Kieran Leddy (operations officer with the Munster Council). Both Araglin men gave informative addresses. The 1973 players’ representative who spoke was Patsy O’Mahony. Club chairman, Liam Carey acknowledged the achievements of 40 years ago and thanked everyone associated with organising the event. Theresa Noonan did an excellent job with the catering and patrons were entertained by Blackwater Duo from Youghal.

The club is also grateful to members who turned out the following day to make sure the hall was left spick and span.

Well earned rest

After the demands of a long hard, season the lads are taking a well deserved rest. Unfortunately, it was a season when several of our players sustained a variety of serious injuries. Thankfully, all are on the mend and hopefully there won’t be any lasting damage.

Lotto

Last Thursday night’s lotto wasn’t won which means a roll over jackpot of €13,100 tonight (31st October). Numbers drawn were 11, 12, 13 and 21. Unusually, there were no Araglin winners of the lucky dips – instead, the cash went to Pad Russell, Kilworth (€50); Michael Evans, Ballyhooly (€50); May McCormack, Kilworth (€25) and Una Mangan, Fermoy (€25).

Cork GAA Clubs’ Draw

We didn’t have a great year in the Cork GAA Clubs’ Draw, however, hopefully, this will change in the coming months. The club would urge all existing members to renew their members – the cost for the year is €100.

Well done to Cain and Dooner

Araglin GAA did well in last week’s Cavanagh’s of Fermoy sponsored league man of the match awards with Tom Kenneally (hurling) and Cain O’Mahony (football) being rewarded for their efforts. Both players received sports tops.

Fun run on Sunday

Our friends and neighbours in Ballysaggart have been in touch looking for support for next Sunday’s fun run in aid of Cian Carey-Conway. There are plenty bikes and quads in Araglin and they are invited to take part in this important fundraiser for 3-year-old Cian who remarkably is surviving with just half a heart. The run departs from Ballysaggart next Sunday morning – quads leave at 10am, tractors at 11am and bikes at 12 noon (all vehicles welcome).

Bingo in Araglin

The fortnightly bingo returns to the hall on this Friday night (1st November) at 8.30pm. The jackpot is up €780 and it’s always good fun. All age groups are accommodated so please go if you can.
