Since Mitchelstown was launched as a healthy town in May of last year, the Healthy Towns Committee have been working on a range of activities and projects in the town to encourage people to be more active and eat healthier.
Now, members of the public and community groups are being invited to the Town Hall on Thursday, November 14 from 7pm-9pm to get an update on the project to date and to set priorities and goals for the Healthy Town initiative in Mitchelstown for 2014.
The focus of Healthy Towns is the promotion of practical ways to achieve and maintain health in the community. In Mitchelstown, this has been achieved with the establishment of the local walking group, while healthy eating and social interaction will be the focus of the allotment, which is hoped to be developed on council land beside the playground.
Kay Dawson is a member of the Healthy Towns Committee, and she said that the initiative is all about encouraging people to embrace a healthier way of living.
“Promoting health is something we are very enthusiastic about here in Mitchelstown. It is about encouraging and supporting schools, businesses and the local community in getting involved in activities, while walking and healthy eating are our main focus. We would be delighted to hear from people who want to get more involved,” she said.
While everyone is welcome to attend the information night on Thursday next, November 14, places are limited so those interested should RSVP by contacting Sadie Allen on sallen@ballyhoura.org or by calling 025-85213 by 5pm, Thursday, November 7.
