The Gaelscoil de h-Íde summer fete is a popular and successful fundraiser for the school - the event is planned and overseen by Cairde de h-Íde (parents' association).

A fine day is always a bonus for organisers and the elements were very favourable last Sunday afternoon. It didn't take long for a substantial crowd to gather and as per normal, there was plenty to see and do.

Lots of activities centre around youngsters and the school yard was choc-a-bloc with a variety of attractions. In the weeks leading up to the fete parents are encouraged to amass as much bric-a-brac as possible and a great deal of this is sold on the day - in most instances at knock down prices. As with any market, every sale counts and a steady trade was done by vendors. The wheel of fortune is always a big hit with all age groups and is a sure fire money spinner.

As with all other national schools, fundraising in Gaelscoil de h-Íde is rarely off the agenda and with each passing year, securing additional revenue streams is becoming more and more critical.

Local businesses are often the first port of call for those on the fundraising trail and this is also the case with the fete. Fortunately, those that are approached are well aware of the excellent work that goes on in Gaelscoil de h-Íde and assistance has always been forthcoming.

Those involved in last weekend's fete take this opportunity to thank the many individuals and business owners who contributed - this generosity is much appreciated.
