A great act of sportsmanship emerged this week from Cork, one that has taken social media by storm.

A video was taken at the finishing line of the Cork Business Houses Athletic Association’s 6K race in Carrigtwohill, showing Watergrasshill AC’s Bryan Crowley leading the race as he approached the finishing line, only for him to stop up and allow Ken Devine in second place to overtake him and take the gold.

Ken had been leading the race and was on course to cross the line in first only that he was directed the wrong way and had to turn back.

Bryan’s honesty has proven popular on social media this week, with the athlete coming in for much praise following his noble act.

Bryan took to Facebook to thank everyone for their kind words.

“To say that I am blown away by the comments is an understatement for doing something I believe every other runner would do, as it was the right thing. Just want to say a big thanks to everyone, it was really much appreciated.”
