The weather was beautiful, the buntings in place and our parish church filled to capacity to celebrate with Fr Hegarty his fifty years as a priest on Friday last.

Twelve priests concelebrated Mass with him and an inspiring homily was delivered by Rev Fr Aidan Crowley. After Mass a piper led him, the Killavullen parishioners, members of his family, friends and members of parishes in which he previously served and where he is fondly remembered, to the community centre for light refreshments.

During the evening presentations were made to him by the local fishing club, the arts group, the principals and teachers of both our schools and the parents’ associations of each school and the Community Council.
