An Bord Pleanála have granted permission for the remediation of Fermoy Weir and the building of a fish bypass in the River Blackwater.
The board stated that it was their belief that the works will not have significant negative effects on the environment nor the community, would not be a risk of pollution and would not adversely impact on the culture, archaeological or built heritage of the area.
Before works begin, reports are to be made into the migration of fish species up and down stream and construction is to be phased to facilitate fish passage for the duration of the works.
The weir is a protected structure and Cork County Council had submitted the application to An Bord Pleanála in June 2022. The board made their approval last week.
