Thirty years on from when the Glenbrohane Gala Weekend first started, the event is still a landmark event in the local calendar, with the range of events appealing to people of all ages.

There was a great turnout across the whole weekend, with some of the highlights being the music from The Voice of Ireland, Keith Hanley; a fancy dress parade and various matches across the weekend.

Bridget Fitzgerald told The Avondhu that they are indebted to the national school for providing the venue 'which was ideal' she said. She also thanked people from the community and members of the Parents' Association and Community Association who help out in the lead up to the big community event.

The Liam Lynch Pipe Band were outstanding on the day, while the art competition based on the theme of The Gathering let a lot of talent shine through. Limerick hurling players James Ryan, Stephen Walsh and brothers Tommy and Nicky Quaid brought the two Munster cups which were won over the summer, much to the delight and excitement of people across all age groups.

Lovely treats from the country market were also enjoyed with relaxing cups of tea and coffee, while the children played on the bouncy castle and sampled the entertainment on offer.

Galbally won the U8 camogie event, while St Fanahan's won the U11 event. The Galbally team won the U8 football and Glenroe U6s won the hurling match, while Ballygiblin came away from the hurling blitz victorious with the Glen Gala Shield for 2013.

All style and glamour, the best dressed lady and gent of the day awards were given to Maggie Collins, Garryspillane and John Higgins, Knocklong.

The winners of the grand raffle were: Margaret Flynn, Garryspillane who won €200, Andrew Sweeney, Mitchelstown (€100) and Brendan English, Garryspillane (€50). Other winners included Mary Anne McDonnell, Pad Joe Quane Cullane, DJ Noonan, Patsy Cooke, Kate Power Flynn and Kathleen McGrath.

Winners of the various side shows include Joseph Tobin for bean bag man, Barry Riordan for darts, Garry Gallahue for the steady hand, Diarmuid Carey for wellington throwing and James Crawford for milk the cow.

The beauty of the Glenbrohane Gala Weekend also lies in the variety of events as there was something for everyone and many families had three generations, with everyone from grandparents to grandchildren enjoying what the weekend had to offer.

Organisers thanked their sponsors without whom the weekend would not be possible. They now look forward to many more gala weekends in the years to come!
