The Flynn household in Glanworth was a proud one this week, as young Caroline Flynn came home from the Munster Irish Dancing Championships as the winner of the under 16 category with six cups to her name.

The daughter of Larry and Bernadette, who run the local shop and Post Office, Caroline has been dancing for years and her mother said that the level of practicing and commitment that is required for these competitions is unbelievable.

In the South Court Hotel in Limerick, Caroline danced until the wee hours of Friday morning with her fellow dancers from the Michael Ryan School of Irish Dance, up against dancers from all over Munster.

"She lives and breathes dancing and her three teachers are great, they put in a lot of time and commitment and you only get out of it what you put in," Bernadette told The Avondhu.

The 16-year-old Transition Year student from Colaiste an Chraoibhin practices dancing three nights a week in Clogheen and while in Transition Year, she has also been working with her music teacher Ernestine Healy to brush up on her bodhran playing.

However, talent is in the blood, as at the recent Ballyhooly Arts Festival, Caroline and her triplet brother and sister DJ and Amy-May scooped the prize for the busking competition, when they performed with their friend Ciara McCarthy.
