In 2010, Gerry Carney wrote and released a song called ‘Paddy’ as a dedication to his uncle who was killed in a construction accident in England in 1964 and was just 21 years old when he died. The song was an instant hit, not only in Ireland, but in England, America and Australia. It was one of the most sought after singles to be released in years and is quoted as being the biggest song since ‘The Fields of Athenry’.
‘Paddy’ tells the story of an Irishman who, like many more of his type, left the homeland to find work and send the money home to support those he left behind.
From county Mayo, Gerry has, over the years, written many memorable songs such as ‘The Cottage By The Sea’ and ‘The Flame It Just Flickered And Died’. Following the success of the song, he then released a twelve track album which includes his self penned hits, ‘Mayo Will Always Be Home’ and ‘I’ve Been There Too’. The album is called ‘Paddy’ and remains a big seller to this day.
Gerry has toured extinsivley in England and America and has been a regular on TV and radio. He is well able to ‘read’ his audience, providing a healthy mix of popular favourites and his own original songs.

'Gerry Carney’s song 'Paddy' is a phenomenon”... Paddy Clancy (Irish Independent)
