The final report on the public enhancement plans for Mitchelstown’s Georgian Quarter have been published, and reveal that despite the designs that were presented to the public, no change whatsoever will be made to New Market Square.

This decision was taken at the request of the six elected councillors, who asked that all works in the square be excluded from the plan.

109 submissions were submitted to the council as part of the public consultation process. Not all of these submissions were against changes to the square, but the removal of parking spaces was a recurring theme as was the idea of a play area for young people.

Within the report, works are planned for Kings Square, for Georges Street, and for Kings Street; the report was proposed and agreed at a meeting of Cork County Council on Monday with no public discussion.
