In a celebration of the Bealtaine festival, young and old were brought together as residents from Abbeylands Nursing Home and students from Kildorrery NS shared memories and art during a recent visit to the home by the students.

The residents brought in items from their youth, such as old fashioned hot water bottles, enamel mugs and bastibles and they drew images to represent farming backgrounds while the students brought in modern items from their own lives and brought in drawings of modern celebrities and of landscapes.

Gillian Cussen who does art with the Abbeylands Nursing Home residents once a week, explained to the students that the residents had been busy doing paintings and drawings and they had also made papier mache hens, ducks and swans, mosaic coasters as well as doing some artwork onto glasses.

There are about ten people in the art group and Gillian said that many of them would never have tried art when they were younger. This gave them the chance to explore their creative sides and try something a little different!
